Mars Hydro TS1000 Review: Unboxing, Value and Coupon Code
Companies send me a lot of grow lights to review. I only test the ones I would actually use, and I was glad when Mars Hydro reached out because I had heard good things about their lights. This is the TS1000, the model I put in my grow room for the fall transplants.
What is in the box
This configuration came with the light board and driver, a humidity and temperature monitor for the tent, a wall timer, a pair of ratchet hangers, the power adapter, and a daisy-chain dimming cable.
The numbers
- 150 watts draw.
- Covers a 3 x 3 foot grow space.
- Full-spectrum LED, and it includes infrared, which not every light in this class does.
- Around $120 at the time I reviewed it.
What sets it apart
The reflector. The TS boards have a reflective hood around the LEDs. Mars Hydro says it raises output by about 30 percent, and it also makes the whole light lighter.
Detachable driver. The cable from the driver to the board is long and it unplugs. I did not understand why until I asked: you can hang the driver outside the tent and keep its heat out of the grow space.
Dimming, and daisy-chained dimming. Not every board in this class dims at all. The TS1000 dims at the driver (pull the plug cap, turn with a screwdriver, like the Spider Farmer), and with the daisy-chain cable one dimmer sets every linked light to the same level. If you run several lights, that is the feature that makes this model economical to scale, or to step up to the TS2000.
Compared with the Viparspectra P1000
The P1000 is a 100-watt light; the TS1000 is 150 watts and a bit larger, which is what you would expect. Both are full spectrum. The TS1000 adds the reflector, the infrared diodes and the daisy-chain dimming.
Who it is for
A beginner who wants one good light for seedlings and a small grow tent, or someone building out a bigger room who wants lights that dim together. I have been happy with it.
