Free Seed Catalogs 2027: Where to Request Them
These eight seed companies mail a free print catalog when you fill out a short form on their website: Wood Prairie Family Farm, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Burpee, Gurney’s, High Mowing Organic Seeds, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, Pinetree Garden Seeds and Territorial Seed. Baker Creek and Burpee were already taking requests for their 2027 catalogs when these links were checked in early October 2026. High Mowing, Johnny’s, Pinetree and Territorial still showed their 2026 edition, and Wood Prairie and Gurney’s gave no edition year. Eight more companies charge a little for print, mail one free with an order, limit free print requests to part of the year, or only offer a free digital catalog.
Every request link below was opened and checked when this page was built, and this list only includes catalogs we confirmed still work. Wood Prairie is listed first because it is an affiliate link; the rest are in alphabetical order, not ranked.

What each request page says, in short:
- Wood Prairie Family Farm. The family has been raising organic seed on the edge of the North Maine Woods for 50 years and sells through its website and a free mail-order catalog. No email address? Call (207) 429-9765 for the free catalog. Code PMG5 takes 5 percent off an order.
- Baker Creek. The free catalog runs over 100 pages and ships by bulk mail, which takes 2 to 5 weeks. It ships free only in the U.S. The 500-plus page Whole Seed Catalog is a separate paid pre-order ($15.95).
- Burpee. The form is headed “Pre-order your 2027 Spring Catalog,” and Burpee calls it a free copy of its latest catalog.
- Gurney’s. A free, full-color catalog. Gurney’s says some discounts are printed only in the catalog, and there is a digital version if you do not want to wait.
- High Mowing. Request a free copy by mail from its catalog page, or read the current 2026 catalog online. High Mowing says the catalog also carries stories about the farmers who grow its seed and growing advice from its staff.
- Johnny’s. The form covers the U.S. and Canada and asks for a daytime phone number. Requests from anywhere else go by email. You can browse the full catalog now in Johnny’s digital catalogs and download a PDF.
- Pinetree. Sign up on the form for the free 2026 catalog; the page had not switched to 2027 yet.
- Territorial. Gardeners have been getting the printed catalog since 1979. Territorial calls both of its catalogs free: a Spring catalog and a Fall and Winter catalog of hardy greens, root vegetables and cold-tolerant varieties. The 2026 editions are online.

Tips for requesting seed catalogs
- Ask in the fall. Bulk mail is slow: Baker Creek allows 2 to 5 weeks, and the earliest indoor seed starts come 12 weeks before your last frost.
- Uncheck the boxes you do not want. Several forms add a sign-up for email or texts. Burpee’s form has an email list box, Johnny’s offers a monthly e-newsletter, and Territorial’s form has a box for marketing text messages. You can get the catalog without them.
- Outside the U.S.? Baker Creek’s free catalog ships free only in the U.S.; elsewhere you pay the shipping. Johnny’s form takes U.S. and Canadian addresses and asks everyone else to email.
- Do not want paper? Johnny’s, High Mowing, Territorial and Fedco all post their current catalog online, and Botanical Interests and Hudson Valley Seed only offer a free digital catalog this year.
- Check back later in the season. High Mowing, Johnny’s, Pinetree and Territorial still showed the 2026 edition in October 2026, Wood Prairie and Gurney’s gave no edition year, and Harris opens Home Garden catalog requests in late December.
From catalog to seed order
I recommend requesting the paper catalog. Flipping through a catalog turns up things I would never have thought to grow from a search box, and my kids circle theirs every winter. Here is how to turn those circled pages into an order:
- Check the seed you already have. My seed viability chart shows onion and parsley seed lasting about 1 year and lettuce up to 6. Test any older packets before you reorder.
- Know the labels. Organic, heirloom, open-pollinated and hybrid mean different things, and only open-pollinated seed grows true if you save it. My guide to choosing the right seeds explains each one.
- Order before your first indoor start. In the Plan My Garden planner, the earliest indoor starts are onions, chives and rosemary, 12 weeks before your last frost. Peppers start 6 weeks before, and tomatoes start 5 to 3 weeks before. Find your date on the Plan My Garden frost date lookup, then use my seed starting calendar for every crop, and store what arrives: I keep my packets in a photo case organizer that holds 16 small 4 x 6 inch cases, one crop per case.

When do 2027 seed catalogs come out?

High Mowing, Johnny’s, Pinetree and Territorial still showed their 2026 edition in October, and Wood Prairie and Gurney’s gave no edition year.
How long does a free seed catalog take to arrive?

Can I get a free seed catalog outside the US?
Sometimes. Baker Creek’s free catalog ships free only in the U.S., and outside it you pay the shipping. Johnny’s request form takes U.S. and Canadian addresses and asks everyone else to email.
Can I read seed catalogs online for free?

Turn your catalog picks into a bed plan
Catalog season is planning season. Plan My Garden is free to start: enter your zip code and it finds your frost dates, draw your beds, pick the crops you circled, and it places each plant at square-foot spacing and builds a planting schedule (start indoors, transplant and direct sow dates) from your frost dates.
